Commercial and multi-family structural work follows the 2021 IBC, effective April 9, 2025. But residential structural work for 1-2 family dwellings — where the vast majority of solar installations occur — is frozen at the 2015 Michigan Residential Code (MRC) following a Michigan Court of Claims order issued July 7, 2025 that temporarily blocks LARA from implementing the updated 2021 MRC while litigation continues.

For solar installers, this means: your single-line diagram and electrical schematic reference NEC 2023, but your roof structural calculations for a residential 1-2 family home reference the 2015 MRC — not the 2021 edition many template plan sets default to.
